Big Boy 4014, the largest operating steam locomotive in the world, began her second life on the rails with a run from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Ogden, Utah in 2019 for the 150th anniversary of the driving of the golden spike. That spike signaled the completion of the transcontinental railroad, a single line that tied a growing nation’s east and west together.
On this page you’ll find stories of 4014’s resurrection from a park display piece, routes of recent tours, and news about the marvelous machine. For a more general history of all Union Pacific Big Boys, see our Big Boy History page.
